Welcome to my "classroom"
There is no one defined "classroom" space for learning.  This message is something I impart on my students through my lessons, the relationships I create, and my own actions. Below is a small sample of the many examples of learning that take place throughout a school week in the many classrooms I teach in.
Be curious, adventurous, thoughtful. I challenge my students to find the deeper meaning of history, exploring universal themes that matter to persons young and old.  To do this, we focus on skill based learning and inquiry, which allows for a range of interdependent investigation. Moreover, we use whatever means necessary to understand topics; co-teaching, getting involved in real-life situations, discussion, etc. all are employed to help us grow as a class.
I am because we are. This Ubuntu philosophy captures the culture that I try and instill with all of my students.  This is most evident in the athletic work I participate in; from coaching to facilitating senior captains' leadership seminars, I emphasize togetherness and reflection to improve growth.  To do this, I use a variety of outdoor leadership games that emphasize communication, participation, and confidence.  In addition, I use technology such as video conferencing or recording to improve student-athletes psychosocial and physical skills.
