Educational Leadership Work
Athletic Leadership
This leadership reflection helps to describe how best to lead in the educational system.  Using various scholarly articles to inform my thoughts, I conclude that strong leadership is a responsibility of those within a school system and can usher “amazing and unexpected” change.
Research/Case Study Essay
Over the past two years friends and colleagues frequently asked, "How is your masters?" Time and again, I came back to one word that helped sum up "how it was."

Fruitful.

My courses provided me practical insight into topics and products that I could use everyday.  Some of these items are listed below and are examples of work that have created discussion, have informed what I do in the classroom, or that I have used on my team. Both sections, educational leadership and athletic leadership, represent my two core concetrations, both of which have helped me grow beyond the school setting.
Schools and communities are intertwined in each other’s success; schools must understand who they are serving in order to best motivate and teach their students.  However, when schools neglect to get to know the community and further, do not incorporate that culture into decisions, curriculum, etc., they will fail to help all learners succeed.  Using critical theory, this paper analyzes how a seemingly homogeneous school system serves their community and students.
One of the largest obstacles for our national education system is the achievement gap (the disparity between majority and minority ethnicity success in school).  This imbalance is detrimental to our global goals of improving lives for all and is even more subversive when it is not acknowledged or talked about. This paper brings forth the history and factors of the achievement gap in state known for stronger educational policy, Connecticut.

Research Project
This project allowed me to improve my literacy student diagnosis and instruction by having me work one-on-one with a student who struggled with reading.  Using pre and post assessments to guide my teaching, this student and I began a process of reading development and engagement.  Read about my final conclusions, reflections, and suggestions on literacy for this student here!
Although many high school athletes are passionate about playing sports, they may neglect to do the things that allow them to participate; getting enough sleep, completing work, or eating correctly.  This nutritional guide provides information and options for athletes on post-recovery meals, which are vital to maintaining a healthy body.  This could be posted via Twitter, handed out to parents and students, or even blown up as a poster for locker room reading.
Communication is essential to coaching and one way coaches can better communicate with their athletes is through video. This is a great example of how to use video to improve athlete productivity; an athlete can go back to the video an innumerable amount of times to watch and listen for form and biomechanics instructions.  Click on the camera markers on the right to pause the video. Once clicked, listen to coaching points by looking to the left white menu and clicking on the small play bubble at the top of the menu.
